Day 6: Greatest measure of love
For great is Your love, higher than the heavens... (Psalm 108:4).
Our Father in heaven, abounding in love and faithfulness (Exodus 34:6), how can we grasp the measure of Your love? [It]... reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the skies... How priceless is Your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of Your wings (Psalm 36:5, 7).
Your love is unfailing (Psalm 48:9), unabating (Exodus 34:6, 1John 3:1), unlimited (Psalm 33:5, John 3:16), unmatched (Psalm 103:11, John 15:13), unending (Psalm 103:17, 118). And the greatest measure of Your love is the priceless, incalculable gift of Your son for a world at enmity with You:
Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us… For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life! (Romans 5:7-8, 10).
Your boundless, unlimited love was not a one time "act" in history that was finite in origin and scope. You have loved us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3), and You love us with a present, abiding, unchanging love that lasts forever.
Thank You for Your indescribable gift (2 Corinthians 9:15). Unveil our eyes to see the supreme sacrifice of reconciling love made possible only through Your Son. Open our hearts to receive it.
O Lord, free us from the chains of rebellion and ingratitude— from the evils of a world living in open revolt against God. Help us to live in the peace and safety of Your love without measure, without end— a love that provides, protects, defends, secures, surrounds forever— through trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword:
He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?... For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:32, 35, 38-39).
