Daily Affirmations - Day 7 - A Word in Season - Like Rain

Day 7: Like rain
“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is My word that goes out from My mouth: It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:10-11).

Lord God, who was in the beginning, who was with God, who was God, (John 1:1). You are the Eternal Word— the One who spoke creation into existence, the One who sustains all things by Your powerful word (Hebrews 1:3).
Long ago, You declared that Your word is an instrument of Your sovereignty and might, sent by You to accomplish Your great, divine purpose. And as the thirsty earth waits for precipitation from heaven to drench its furrows; to soften it with showers and bless its crops (Psalm 65:10), so dry and thirsty souls long for the streams of God (Isaiah 65:9).
Creator God, You know what the earth needs to bud and flourish, for You made the world and everything in it (Psalm 89:11 - NET). In the same way, You know what human souls need to bud and flourish, for You made humanity in Your own image (Genesis 1:27), and set in them the genesis and the propagation of life.
And to a parched and famished world, desperately spending "on what is not bread," striving and laboring for what does not satisfy, You issue an invitation, "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost... Listen, listen to Me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to Me; listen, that you may live” (Isaiah 55:1-3).
Lord, Your word is life (John 6:63, 68; Philippians 2:16). Your word is light (Psalm 119:130; Isaiah 8:20). Your word is peace (Psalm 81:13-14). Your word is power (Acts 19:20; Hebrews 1:3).
Open our ears to hear You above the din and the chaos, the hate and the vitriol, the lies and the false promises that echo and reecho in the barrenness and the void. Help us, heal us, for our filters are faulty and we are apt to strain out gnats and swallow camels (Matthew 23:24).
Give us the wisdom of Your servant Job, who understood the significance of Your word when he declared, "I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my daily bread" (Job 23:12).
Sovereign Lord, Your word will not return to You void. Let it not return in judgment on us, but let it fulfill Your life-giving purpose for our lives, for our souls, for our world.
May our hearts embrace Your word in every season— the timeless invitation You gave through Moses: Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants (Deuteronomy 32:2).
