Daily Affirmations - Day 4 - A Word in Season - For Teaching, Rebuking, Correcting, and Training

Day 4: For teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training
Then Nathan said to David, “You are that man!... Why…have you despised the command of the LORD by doing evil in His sight? (2 Samuel 12:7,9).

O Lord our God, like a father You lead us— along the right paths, for You are good, and You are kind. You love us with a perfect love that transcends even the strongest, most protective love of human parents.
Often, like children, we too, try to assert our own will, not recognizing our danger, our limitations, our unawareness. But You give us Your word as a guardrail, to protect us, to safeguard us, to lead us to the shelter, the safety, and the peace we crave.
Help us to trust Your heart, remembering the assurance You give us, My child, don't turn away or become bitter when the Lord corrects you. The Lord corrects everyone He loves, just as parents correct a child they dearly love (Proverbs 3:11-12 – CEV).
Father, You know how easy it is for us to see sin in the abstract, to readily perceive wrong in judgment of others. It is much harder to recognize when we are that man, that woman (2 Samuel 12:7) who has done what is evil in your sight (Psalm 51:4). But as David did, may we accept the word You send in season to turn us around when we stray onto destructive paths that seem right, but lead only to death (Proverbs 14:12).
You have told us that All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness… (2 Timothy 3:16). How blessed we are that Your kindness is meant to lead us to repentance! (Romans 2:4).
May we acknowledge our wrong before You, admitting, "I have sinned against the Lord;" pouring out our heart to You in full confession and repentance (2 Samuel 12:13, Psalm 51).
Open Your word of truth to us. And as You do, may we be willing to pray, Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (Psalm 139:23-24).
Psalm 51 - Selected verses:
Have mercy on me, O God,
according to Your unfailing love;
according to Your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in Your sight;
so you are right in Your verdict
and justified when You judge.
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
