Day 6: For the children who faint
Arise, cry out in the night, as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the lives of your children, who faint from hunger at every street corner (Lamentations 2:19).

Our Father, God of grace and mercy, the psalmist urged us, Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge (Psalm 62:8).
Indeed, we have no help but You as we try to navigate a world full of change and uncertainty. We battle trepidation ourselves, and we are often troubled and fearful for our children and the new generations. It is easy for us to look and feel the way the crowds did, when our Saviour described them as harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd (Matthew 9:36).
But we are strengthened and encouraged by the compassion of Jesus (Matthew 9:36) and by all the times You assure us in Your word that You are our Shepherd— our Good Shepherd (Psalm 23:1, John 10:11-18).
And as we struggle to confront the issues, the pitfalls, the conditions, and the circumstances our young ones face, we are especially grateful for Your tender promise through the prophet Isaiah, He tends His flock like a Shepherd: He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young (Isaiah 40:11).
Father, we confess to you that it is often overwhelming to think of the battle we are in for the souls of our children. But we dare not give up the fight.
Wake us from complacency. Wake us from slumber. Literally and figuratively. Help us to arise, [to] cry out in the night. Help us to pour out our heart like water to You. Help us to lift up untiring hands for their famished souls, their fainting hearts, O God. Give us the faith and the endurance— the stamina to pray through the watches of the long dark nights, when neither we, nor they, can see the faintest markings of the dawn.
Give us patience, Lord, compassion, strength, and endurance. Give us a deep and unconditional love. Provide for us, protect us, guide and instruct us. Give us wisdom for all the uncertainties, courage for all the battles, and faith for all the obstacles.
We confess our own failures and shortcomings, the genuine mistakes, and the wrong choices that have impacted our generations. We thank You that You are a God who breaks destructive generational patterns and cycles and redeems all things.
We thank You that we are the flock under Your care (Psalm 95:7). We thank You for hearing our prayers, and for guiding our young to the shelter of Your protection as we cry out in the night. Hear, O Lord, and have mercy.
