But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked…they scoff, and speak with malice; with arrogance they threaten oppression. Their mouths lay claim to heaven, and their tongues take possession of the earth. (Psalm 73: 2-3; 8-10)
Lord, it can be easy to slip into discontent, anger and envy, especially when we see the vast disparities between the need on the one hand, and the excesses on the other. We can become really distressed for ourselves, or on behalf of others, by the unfairness of it all. Help us, Lord, not to lose our foothold, but to remember that the "treasures" of this world amount to nothing in the end.
Lord, give me godliness with contentment, which is great gain (1Timothy 6:6). Thank you that You have promised to provide. Help me to pray for those who have nothing but emptiness in spite of their wealth, and help me not to feel awe, but rather compassion for those whose "tombs will remain their houses forever, their dwellings for endless generations, though they had named lands after themselves. (Psalm 49:11).
Right my perspective Lord!
