God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. (Psalm 46:1-3)
Father, it is so easy to fear when all that we know and expect to be "stable" is shaken. It is only by Your supernatural grace we can hang on in the roaring and the foaming and the quaking and the falling. Oh God, when all gives way, You are our only refuge.
Thank You, Lord, that "in the day of trouble [You] will keep me safe in [Your] dwelling; [You] will hide me in the shelter of [Your] sacred tent and set me high upon a rock." (Psalm 27:5)
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.
