Day 7: Overflow with hope
Love always trusts, always hopes... (1 Corinthians 13:7).
Sovereign Lord Almighty, You are God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas (Psalm 65:5).
We live in uncertain times— times that are for many, troubling and fearful. But You are our rock of refuge, our fortress of defense, our strength (Psalm 31:2, 5, and our perfect love that drives away fear (1 John 4:18 - NIRV). Thank You for loving us with the greatest of loves.
Father, teach us to love You as You love us. Teach us to respond with a love that always trusts, always hopes.
You have provided us with the shield of faith (Ephesians 6:16)— let faith arise as our defense against fear, fatigue, despair, and discouragement. When we have no might, increase our endurance. When are taunted by terror on every side (Psalm 31:13), remind us that You are for us (Romans 8:31). When our feet are slipping, support us with Your unfailing love; when anxiety is great within us, bring us the joy of Your consolation (Psalm 94:18-19).
Lord, establish our faith footing, so we can minister to those around us whose hearts are failing. We pray especially for our young people, many of whom are describing their hopelessness and despair. Others suffer in anguish and silence. God, help them!
The world has taught them to stake their hopes on the systems, the structures and the treasures of this world, but their hearts remain unfulfilled and empty. And increasingly they struggle under the frustration of undelivered promises and unmet expectations, as they see the falling towers and crumbling structures all around us.
Give us opportunity to bring them hope and to show them the love that surpasses all else— the love You Yourself have poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us (Romans 5:5). Help us to teach and encourage them by loving example so they can know the truth of Your promise:
“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit” (Jeremiah 17:7-8).
God of hope fill us with all joy and peace as we trust in You, so that we may overflow into those around us with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13)
