Day 6: Incredible love
Consider the incredible love that the Father has shown us in allowing us to be called “children of God”—and that is not just what we are called, but what we are (1 John 3:1 – PHILLIPS).
Heavenly Father, Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the skies (Psalm 36:5). You so loved us, that You gave Your only begotten Son to reconcile us to Yourself and save us from a horrendous life forever without God, without hope (John 3:16).
All this You did while [and even though] we were God's enemies (Romans 5:10)— not understanding Your grace; actively resisting the love that seeks to cover us in safety and shelter (Matthew 23:37)— like heedless toddlers insisting on going out into the cold, brutal winter landscape in our shorts and slippers... Yet You continue to guide and protect us with a compassionate love surpassing that of a mother for the baby at her breast, or the child she has borne (Isaiah 49:15).
Your beloved Son is the ultimate measure of Your incredible love for us—He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:32).
Thank You, O Lord, for the supreme gift of Your love, and for all things that You so graciously give us. Help us to grasp, as did the apostle John, the wonder and amazement of this love— the love that constrains, compels, consoles, comforts, covers. Thank You for Your "What is This?" love that knows no obstacles, no barriers, no boundaries, no limits, no equivalent, no end (Romans 8:37-39).
