Day 4: Divine guide
In Your unfailing love You will lead the people You have redeemed. In Your strength You will guide them to Your holy dwelling (Exodus 15:13).
That divine strength is the only power which is able to guide. We are so weak that it takes all His might to hold us up. It is His strength, not ours.
~ Alexander MacLaren
Sovereign Lord, our Father in heaven, You made the earth by Your power, You founded the world by Your wisdom, and You stretched out the heavens by Your understanding (Jeremiah 10:12). You alone know the way to the abode of light (Job 38:19); You set the moon and the stars in place (Psalm 8:3).
And yet, great and mighty God, You are mindful of us; You care for us (Psalm 8:4). You set in motion a plan to guide lost humans back to the God of love from whom they have strayed, and as only You can, You orchestrate the events of human history to guide us to full realization of Your purpose through Your Son Jesus.
Our Father, You know how easy it is for us to become disoriented, lost, and confused in this chaotic, tumultuous world. You know our weaknesses, our limitations, and our fears as we face its uncertain paths and treacherous terrain. We need Your great strength to guide and protect us from the enemy at our back, the great deep that surrounds, and the wilderness ahead.
Lord, You alone know every path in the heavens, in the earth, under the earth and in the deepest sea. And just as You guided Your ancient people, so today You continue to lead the people You have redeemed. In Your strength You will guide them to Your holy dwelling just as You have promised, for Your word is faithful and true.
Lead us, O divine, unfailing Guide.
Out on this dark world, Savior, am I,
Be Thou my helper, oh, hear my cry;
Thou art my portion, all is in Thee,
Oh, let Thy mighty hand ever lead me.
Refrain:
Wilt Thou lead me by the hand?
Hope of my heart, Lord, strength of my soul,
Guide Thou my footsteps and keep me whole;
My grace and fortress, Lord, Thou wilt be,
Oh, let Thy mighty hand ever lead me.
Calm Thou the wild storm, clear up the way,
Keep me from falling, by night and day;
Trav’ling to glory, walking with Thee,
Oh, let Thy mighty hand ever lead me.
