Day 4: In every situation

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).

Heavenly Father, the psalmist captures so well the praise, honor and gratitude that is Your due for Your gracious and providential care over our lives: Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens (Psalm 68:19).

You know our human tendencies, to worry, to fret, to be anxious, to be disquieted. But our Savior gave us an invitation and a promise, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

Gracious God, Your promised rest is only a prayer away when we respond to Your invitation to make our requests known to You in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6 - TLV).

You have assured us that You know what we need before we ask You (Matthew 6:8). Yet You call us to a tender Father who desires to hear from us, who longs to be gracious to us (Isaiah 30:18), and who delights in our acknowledgement, our gratitude, and our interaction, in the same way we delight in those things as we give good gifts to our children (Matthew 7:11).

Lord, we come with gratitude, we come with praise. We come with recognition that You alone are God. We come with humble acknowledgement that our total dependence is on You— the source and origin of every good gift— tangible and intangible (James 1:17).

We lay our anxieties down before You, grateful for the peace You give. We lay our burdens down before You, thankful for the rest You grant. We number our blessings before You, thankful that You have been our help in the past, that You are our security in the present, and our hope in the future.

Praise be to You, our God, our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.
