Day 3: Messiah King
I will perpetuate Your memory through all generations; therefore the nations will praise You for ever and ever (Psalm 45:17).
You are the most excellent of men
and Your lips have been anointed with grace,
since God has blessed You forever.
Gird Your sword on Your side, You mighty One;
clothe Yourself with splendor and majesty.
In Your majesty ride forth victoriously
in the cause of truth, humility and justice;
let Your right hand achieve awesome deeds.
Let Your sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the King’s enemies;
let the nations fall beneath Your feet.
Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of Your kingdom.
Psalm 45:2-6
Note on this Messianic Psalm: All this has its first and most natural meaning in relation to contemporary history but without being at variance with the reference of the Psalm to the King Messiah, as used by the church.
~ Keil and Delitzsch Biblical Commentary on the Old Testament
Such as strictly cleave to Christ, loving Him in singleness of heart partake of the very same grace, enjoy the same privileges, and share in one common salvation. These, every one, shall be brought to the King; not one lost or left behind. Instead of the Old [Covenant] church, there shall be a [New Covenant church], an [all nations church].
In the believing hope of our everlasting happiness in the other world, let us always keep up the remembrance of Christ, as our only way [to this hope]; and transmit the remembrance of Him to succeeding generations, that His name may endure for ever.
Fairest Lord Jesus, Ruler of all nature,
O Thou of God and man the Son,
Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor,
Thou, my soul’s glory, joy and crown.
Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands,
Robed in the blooming garb of spring;
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer,
Who makes the woeful heart to sing.
Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight,
And all the twinkling starry host;
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
Than all the angels heav’n can boast.
All fairest beauty, heavenly and earthly,
Wondrously, Jesus, is found in Thee;
None can be nearer, fairer or dearer,
Than Thou, my Savior, art to me.
Beautiful Savior! Lord of all the nations!
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration,
Now and forevermore be Thine.
