Day 2: The Lord is faithful

For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope, for who hopes for what one already sees? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently (Romans 8:24-25).

"Lord, You are the Creator of all things, the One who brings order from chaos. Strengthen our faith so that we may remain steadfast in hope, trusting that Your promises will never fail. Let our hearts be anchored in the certainty of Your mercy."

~ Clement of Rome ~ 1st Century

Lord our God, help us to wait in eager expectation as creation does (Romans 8:19); for hope in You is indeed eager expectation. We do not hope according to the definition of our times— uncertain of outcomes, fearful of possibilities. We hope with full confidence, knowing that the Lord is trustworthy in all He promises and faithful in all He does (Psalm 145:13).

Give us the strength, the endurance and the fortitude to wait patiently in the midst of the frustration, groaning, and suffering of a world in bondage to decay. We know that the whole creation has been groaning together as it suffers together the pains of labor, and not only the creation, but we ourselves... groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies (Romans 8:18-23).

We thank You for the liberation that will restore order and bring Your creation into the freedom and glory of the children of God (vs. 21). We thank You for the adoption that brings us out of exposure to the ravages of a broken world, and into the shelter of Your household forever.

And we thank You for the certainty of this yet unseen hope for we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7 - NKJV), knowing that You are faithful.

Light after darkness, gain after loss,

Strength after weakness, crown after cross;

Sweet after bitter, hope after fears,

Home after wandering, praise after tears.

Refrain:

Now comes the weeping, then the glad reaping;

Now comes the labor hard, then the reward.

Sheaves after sowing, sun after rain,

Sight after mystery, peace after pain;

Joy after sorrow, calm after blast,

Rest after weariness, sweet rest at last.

Near after distant, gleam after gloom,

Love after loneliness, life after tomb;

After long agony rapture of bliss—

Right was the pathway leading to this.
