So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, He remembered Abraham, and He brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived (Genesis 19:29).
Oh God of justice, Father of compassion, You are the Judge of all the earth (Genesis 18:25). And yet, Abraham appealed to Your mercy, and Your compassion, and Your righteousness, as He desperately prayed for his neighbors, and for his nephew Lot.
Father, we know that the Judge of all the earth will do right. (Genesis 18:25). And we are so encouraged by Abraham's prayer, and Your merciful answer. Thank You for these reminders in Scripture that You hear our prayers, that You listen to our pleas for those around us, and for those near and dear to us.
Your word assures us that The Lord confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them (Psalm 25:14). Help us to walk so closely with You that You disclose Your plans to us and stir our hearts to intercessory prayer (Genesis 18:17-32). Thank You that we can approach You (Genesis 18:23).
We pray for our communities, our cities, our neighborhoods. O God, deliver us from the broad sweep of corruption that fails to produce even a small number of righteous souls (Genesis 18:24-32). We lift to Your mercy our friends our neighbors, and our loved ones who are unaware of danger.
We pray for those who have firmly lodged themselves in the deceptive cities of the plain (Genesis 13:12). Visit them with Your salvation. Turn their hearts away from evil.
We pray for our young ones who set out in search of well-watered land and ended up pitching their tent near, and eventually in, corrupt territory (Genesis 13:10, 12). Deliver them out of catastrophe.
We pray for the ones even now starting out. Guide their steps, protect their path. Deliver them from dazzle and deception. Keep them from treacherous terrain.
God, hear our prayers! Shine Your light in this darkness. As You remembered Abraham, as You remembered the thief on the cross, remember us, and show Your merciful favor. Heal our families. Heal our neighborhoods. Heal our communities. Heal our countries. Heal our land. Heal our world. Deliver us from evil.
