Day 7: Peace and Safety
The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them (Isaiah 11:6).
Lord God, You are our mighty fortress, our never failing bulwark, our helper, our strong tower. You are the God of all peace, who has promised to bring us peace. And our hearts long for peace.
War has ravaged this earth for centuries—its toll on the human psyche is enormous. And the people of God understand that war rages, not just in the physical realm, but in the spiritual as well.
Father, when You promised Your Messiah, You said, He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Angels announced His birth with a proclamation of “Peace On Earth (Luke 2:14).
He came, and He lived among us, and He defeated chaos, and disorder, and war, and strife, by conquering sin with His sacrificial death on a cross. But we wait for the final fulfilment of Your promise, when the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ (Revelation 11:15)
We wait for the time when nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore (Isaiah 2:4). We look forward to the time of peace the prophet Isaiah describes in beautiful symbols of peace and safety (Isaiah 11:6).
The Lord Jesus has promised that He will return for His own (John 14:2-3). And we know that no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God (2 Corinthians 1:20).
So we look forward to the place, the home that the Lord Jesus prayed about, I want those You have given Me to be with Me where I am, and to see My glory, the glory You have given Me because you loved Me before the creation of the world (John 17:24).
In the meantime Lord, we look for Your deliverance through the struggles of this life. We pray for areas torn by conflict, and war, and destruction. We pray for areas that are brooding with strife and unrest.
We pray for those who daily face the hardships and the consequences of war. We pray for our brothers and sisters—world over—some on opposite sides of the same conflict. O God have mercy. Teach us to pray, and to minister, and to share the hope for peace and healing.
Help us to tell of the tree of life on each side of the river of the water of life, a tree whose leaves are for the healing of the nations (Revelation 22:1-2). Help us to tell of the Prince of Peace who has triumphed over death, and the grave, and Hades. Help us to share His unimpeachable promise that He will come again and take us home to Himself that where He is we also may be (John 14:3).
Even so come, Lord Jesus (Revelation 22:20 - NKJV). Come, Prince of Peace.
