Day 7: Expunged!
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1 -ESV).
Sovereign Lord, You are God everlasting— Your throne was established long ago; You are from all eternity (Psalm 93:2). But we are a mist... (James 4:14).
Our days...quickly pass and we fly away… wrote Moses, the man of God. Yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow (Psalm 90:10).
Trouble and sorrow, Moses knew, were part of the inheritance for all humanity, ever since our first parents, Adam and Eve, rebelled against God, choosing to believe the lies of a deceiver rather than the promises of a God who had shown them His love, kindness, and benevolence.
“You will not certainly die,” the [deceiver] said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” (Genesis 3:4-5).
The woman and the man recognized the lies and distortions too late, sadly becoming fully acquainted with evil where they had only known the goodness of God. And thus, sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned (Romans 5:12).
But even then— even in the midst of human disobedience and the condemnation it brought, God promised a gift to broken humanity— a Savior who would eradicate evil and death and destruction, and restore the goodness the original creation had known (Genesis 3:15).
There is no comparison between God’s gift and Adam’s failure. If humanity died as the result of one person’s failure, it is certainly true that God’s kindness and the gift given through the kindness of one person, Yeshua Christ, have been showered on humanity (Romans 5:15 – Names of God Translation).
But sadly, much of humanity still believes the deceiver who continues to sow chaos, confusion, distortion, death, and destruction. Humans still believe the lie, "You will not certainly die," instead of the truth God has demonstrated, validated, and preserved through centuries:
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life… Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son (John 3:16, 18).
Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God… (John 1:12). For these, the record of sin, death and destruction is forever expunged— as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us (Psalm 103:12).
Every promise of God is trustworthy and faithful (Psalm 145:13). And in the confidence of His amazing grace and forgiveness, we can know, He who vindicates me is near. Who then will bring charges against me? ...Who is my accuser?... (Isaiah 50:8, Revelation 12:10). For there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus... (Romans 8:1).
