Day 6: Get Wisdom
Blessed are those who listen to me [wisdom], watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway (Proverbs 8:34).
Our Father, praise be to Your name for ever and ever; wisdom and power are Yours (Daniel 2:20). You reveal Yourself as the only wise God (Romans 16:27)—You are the origin and source of all wisdom: For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding (Proverbs 2:6).
The psalmist marveled at the wisdom displayed in Your creation, How many are Your works Lord! In wisdom You made them all... (Psalm 104:24). "Wisdom itself" provides insight into its foundational role in Your purpose and design: “The Lord brought me [wisdom] forth as the first of His works, before His deeds of old; I was formed long ages ago, at the very beginning, when the world came to be…” (Proverbs 8:22-23).
You have taken great care to show us, O God, the measureless value of wisdom: The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding (Proverbs 4:7).
You have shown us its inextricable link to knowing You—the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding (Psalm 111:10 - ESV).
You have shown us its indispensable role in all the critical areas of life, governance, and survival: “I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion… Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have insight, I have power. By me kings reign and rulers issue decrees that are just; by me princes govern, and nobles—all who rule on earth (Proverbs 8:12, 14-16).
You have shown us its discernable impact on lives and outcomes—For those who find me [wisdom] find life and receive favor from the Lord. But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death” (Proverbs 8:35-36).
And in the Living Present between the mistakes of the Past, and the uncertainties of the Future, we have Your promise: If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you (James 1:5).
Father, we gratefully embrace that promise. We can only navigate the complexities of this life with the knowledge, understanding, and insight You provide. Teach us to prioritize wisdom. Help us to come each day, listening, watching, waiting patiently at its doorway for each day's supply. Thank You for the promised blessing:
Blessed are those who listen to me [wisdom], watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway (Proverbs 8:34).
