Day 6: Remote and barren

As evening approached, the disciples came to [Jesus] and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food” (Matthew 14:15).

Our Father— Jehovah Jireh— our Savior taught us to pray, "Give us today our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11) for You alone are the God of source, God of provision.

In our world with all its layers of complexity, the gracious hand of Providence may be overlooked in the vast network of agents and channels You use as conduits of Your generous supply. You warned Your ancient people about this grave error:

You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth…" (Deuteronomy 8:17-18).

Even the disciples lost perspective for a moment when they looked at circumstances through lenses that magnified scarcity, lack of access, and overwhelming demand (Matthew 14:15). They lost sight of the fact that they were in the presence of the One in whom, through whom, and for whom all things were created (Colossians 1:16).

But You reminded them, the crowd, and us, that Your fullness and abundance flow even in remote and barren places (AMPC version). Are You not the God who promised to make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs withing the valleys... to turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs? (Isaiah 41:18).

Today, O Lord, we entrust to You the barren places in our lives. Fill our cup from Your multiplying supply of comfort, grace, peace, and provision; for You understand our deepest need. Bring blessings from our overflow into the lives of others.

Thank You for Your promise that those who seek the Lord lack no good thing (Psalm 34:10). Thank You, that although You often work in ways we do not expect, You never send us away empty.
