Day 6: All in Him is mine

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:3-5).

’Tis myst’ry all: th’ Immortal dies:

Who can explore His strange design?

In vain the firstborn seraph tries

To sound the depths of love divine.

’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore,

Let angel minds inquire no more.

Refrain:

Amazing love! How can it be,

That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Long my imprisoned spirit lay,

Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;

Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray—

I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;

My chains fell off, my heart was free,

I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread;

Jesus, and all in Him, is mine;

Alive in Him, my living Head,

And clothed in righteousness divine,

Bold I approach th’ eternal throne,

And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

~ Charles Wesley ~ pub. 1738

If Easter be not true,

Then all the lilies low must lie;

The Flanders poppies fade and die;

The spring must lose her fairest bloom

For Christ were still within the tomb -

If Easter be not true.

If Easter be not true.

Then faith must mount on broken wing;

Then hope no more immortal spring;

Then love must lose her mighty urge;

Life prove a phantom, death a dirge -

If Easter be not true,

If Easter be not true.

'Twere foolishness the cross to bear;

He died in vain who suffered there;

What matter though we laugh or cry,

Be good or evil, live or die,

If Easter be not true?

If Easter be not true -

But it is true, and Christ is risen!

And mortal spirit from its prison

Of sin and death with Him may rise!

Worthwhile the struggle, sure the prize,

Since Easter, aye, is true!
