Daily Affirmations - Day 6 - Be Careful You Don't Fall: Remember Who

Updated: Oct 24

Day 6: Remember Who

Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe His commands, His laws and His decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery (Deuteronomy 8:11-14).

Our Father in heaven, You are the origin, the wellspring, the sustainer of everything. You fashioned and made the earth; You founded it; You did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited (Isaiah 45:18). And with perfect precision You designed the systems, the structures, the cycles, and the patterns that create and sustain life and livelihood (Psalm 104).

You alone are our help (Psalm 121:1-2), our source, our provider: The eyes of all look to You, and You give them their food at the proper time. You open Your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing (Psalm 145:15-16). Your hand of Providence seamlessly weaves together the intricate strands of supply and fulfillment, renewal and replenishment, as You send Your rain on the just and on the unjust (Matthew 5:45 - NKJV).

Oh Lord, the psalmist calls us to lift up gratitude from our deepest soul: Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits... (Psalm 103:2). For if we do not remember our benefits and remember the Lord... God... is He who gives... the ability to produce wealth, we can easily fall into the "pride of prosperity" Moses warned against (Deuteronomy 8:1-18).

Today, Father, we count our blessings as we pause to remember who gives us every good and perfect gift (James 1:17). We remember with gratitude that it is our Lord God who crowns us with love and compassion, [and] satisfies our desires with good things (Psalm 103:5).
