Day 5: The favor of the Lord
The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the righteous. He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed (Proverbs 3:33-34).
"All that I have is Yours and with this I am to serve You. But the reality is quite different for You serve me rather than my serving You.
Both heaven and earth, which You created for man’s use await Your word and daily they fulfill Your every command. Moreover, You have appointed the angels to serve man, and even more amazing, You Yourself have deigned to serve man and have promised to give Yourself to him.
What shall I give You in return for these thousands and thousands of favors? Would that I could serve You all the days of my life! Would that I were able to serve You worthily, even for a day!
You, are indeed my Lord, and worthy of all service, all honor, and eternal praise! Amen"
~ Thomas a Kempis (1380-1471)
1 Praise the Lord.
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
His love endures forever.
2 Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord
or fully declare His praise?
3 Blessed are those who act justly,
who always do what is right.
4 Remember me, Lord, when You show favor to Your people,
come to my aid when You save them,
5 that I may enjoy the prosperity of Your chosen ones,
that I may share in the joy of Your people
and join Your inheritance in giving praise.
— Psalm 106: 1-5
Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with Thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with Thee.
