Day 4: Hidden treasures

All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in [Jesus] (Colossians 2:3 - NIRV).

Our Father, long ago You made a declaration and a promise to Your people, The Lord is exalted, for He dwells on high; He will fill Zion with His justice and righteousness. He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure (Isaiah 33:5-6).

The ultimate fulfilment of Your promise came in the indescribable gift of Your own Son, the sure foundation, the chief cornerstone, the only Rock, the rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge. But to mortal eyes dimmed by sin's darkness, hearts of stone jaded by rebellion's corruption, He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him (Isaiah 53:2).

O forgive our dulled senses and warped appetites that prefer the trinkets of this world over the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden in Jesus!

You richly provide us with everything for our enjoyment. Keep us from the suffocating and entangling preference for these gifts over our hope in You (1 Timothy 6:17).  Deliver us from the lust and the greed that drive us to cry like the two daughters of the leech, "Give, give!"(Proverbs 30:15).

Thank You, O Lord, for the priceless treasures hidden in Jesus— for justice and righteousness, and a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge. Thank You for the treasures of wisdom— the very wisdom by which the Lord laid the earth's foundations (Proverbs 3:19). Thank You for its immeasurable value and incredible returns:

Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed (Proverbs 3:13-18).

Jesus, priceless Treasure,

Source of purest pleasure,

Truest friend to me.

Long my heart hath panted,

Till it almost fainted,

Thirsting after Thee.

Thine I am, O spotless Lamb,

I will suffer naught to hide Thee,

Ask for naught beside Thee.

Hence, all earthly treasure!

Jesus is my pleasure;

Jesus is my choice.

Hence, all empty glory!

What to me thy story

Told with tempting voice?

Pain or loss or shame or cross

Shall not from my Savior move me,

Since He chose to love me.

Hence, all thought of sadness!

For the Lord of gladness,

Jesus, enters in.

Those who love the Father,

Though the storms may gather,

Still have peace within;

Yea, whate’er we here must bear,

Still in Thee lies purest pleasure,

Jesus, priceless Treasure!
