Day 4: The key to full riches
[The Lord] will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure (Isaiah 33:6).
Exalted God, You dwell on high—You are a God of righteousness and justice (Isaiah 33:5). To You only can we cry, Lord, be gracious to us; we long for You. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress (Isaiah 33:2).
O God our Father and Savior, in times like these we need an anchor! We hardly know what is terra firma—all around us the path seems to be dark and slippery. But You, O Christ, are our Rock, our Savior, the sure foundation for our times. How we thank You that our times are in Your hands (Psalm 31:15).
O Lord Jesus, how comforting are the words You left us, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock" (Matthew 7:24-25).
In the sudden downpours and in the blinding rain, in the floods and in the rising streams, in the howling winds and in the blowing gales, You are our cornerstone, given to us in fulfillment of the promise by the Father: So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic (Isaiah 28:16).
Thank You for the gift of this precious cornerstone—the key to full riches—the key to all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Help us to build our house on this sure foundation, in gratitude and reverent fear.
Help us to be wise builders. Your word tells us that By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures (Proverbs 24:3-4).
Help us to guard our hearts, our minds and our eyes from the dazzle of futile and fruitless quests. Encourage us in heart and unite us in love, so that [we] may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that [we] may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:2-3).
