Day 3: Because Jesus says so

I will hasten and not delay to obey Your commands

When [Jesus] had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”  Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because You say so, I will let down the nets.”  When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break (Luke 5:4-6).

O Lord, the psalmist said of You, By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry hosts by the breath of His mouth... He spoke, and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm (Psalm 33:6,9).

But too often we lose sight of who You are— Your might, Your power, Your greatness. Increase our faith, for without faith it is impossible to please God... (Hebrews 11:6).

Yet You do not call us to blind faith, for again and again You provide overwhelming evidence that You are God. You have declared of Yourself, "I the Lord, speak the truth; I declare what is right (Isaiah 45:19).

Guard our hearts from the contagion of doubt, cynicism, skepticism, and unbelief. Help us to hold fast to truth, though its pillars are constantly knocked down and removed, and though the world is increasingly prone to discourage, to discredit, to naysay, to mock, to scorn, to ridicule.

Give us the courage to step out in full, trustful obedience simply because Jesus says so. Help us to hold fast to the truth of Your word even when You call us to "let down nets" into what seems impossible, futile, hopeless, depleted.

Oh, Lord God! You Yourself made the heavens and earth by Your great power and with Your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You! (Jeremiah 32:17 - CSB). Take us, take me, dear Savior, into the deep of surrender. And Because You say so, I will let down the nets (Luke 4:5).
