Day 3: Pathway to peace
The Lord answers, “Can a mother forget the baby who is nursing at her breast? Can she stop having tender love for the child who was born to her? She might forget her child. But I will not forget you” (Isaiah 49:15 – NIRV).
Our Father in heaven, God who is enthroned from of old—who does not change (Psalm 55:19), You have left us a record of Your tender mercies that last from of old to everlasting (Psalm 25:6, 100:5 -NKJV). The psalmist, inspired by the Holy Spirt, reminds us, Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits… (Psalm 103:1-2).
Lord, cause us to ponder the loving deeds of the Lord (Psalm 107:43), and praise You with our inmost being. For in the battlefield of the mind we tend to rehearse the things that cause us fear, worry, and anxiety—the things that threaten our peace. We often forget Your gracious invitation, Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken (Psalm 55:22).
You know all of our struggles and our fears, our "mountains" and our needs. But You have shown us the pathway to peace and the antidote to anxiety: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).
Today, Father, we bring our prayers and petitions to You. Thank You that we can bring the wounds and scars of the past, the needs and struggles of the present, and the mysteries and uncertainties of the future to Your throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). We surrender them now to You.
Thank You that nothing in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:39).
Thank You that when doubt threatens to engulf us—when the voices of deception hound and harass us with their relentless message: “The Lord has forsaken me, the Lord has forgotten me” (Isaiah 49:14), the voice of truth whispers Your tender love and care: "I will not forget You" (Isaiah 49:15).
