Day 3: While it is day
As long as it is day, we must do the works of Him who sent Me. Night is coming, when no one can work (John 9:4).
Sovereign Lord, You are the great Almighty God, Creator of space and time. You alone make known the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10), for You alone are both the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 21:6).
Yet You, our Lord Jesus, stepped into a universe bound by laws You had created and subjected Yourself to those very laws. You showed us how to live within the confines of time, and included Yourself in the wise and obedient stewardship of time and opportunity: "I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work" (NKJV).
O Lord, help us to take advantage of the brief span we have been given, and the resources we have been blessed with, before the night sets in in any of its various forms— trouble, peril, danger, death.
Thank You that in this moment we have life and light. Help us to use each last spark, each last ray, to impact the world around us in the ways You have determined through the works You have assigned us.
God of grace and God of glory,
On Thy people pour Thy pow'r;
Crown Thine ancient church's story,
Bring her bud to glorious flow'r.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
For the facing of this hour,
For the facing of this hour.
Lo! the hosts of evil round us
Scorn Thy Christ, assail His ways!
Fears and doubts too long have bound us,
Free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
For the living of these days,
For the living of these days.
Set our feet on lofty places;
Gird our lives, that they may be
Armored with all Christ-like graces
In the fight to set men free.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
That we fail not man nor Thee!
That we fail not man nor Thee!
