Day 3: That we may know
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and His incomparably great power for us who believe (Ephesians 1:17-19).
Glorious Father, God of our Lord Jesus Christ, Mighty God, Your incomparably great power... raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at Your right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. You placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills everything in every way (Ephesians 1:20-23).
You are the God who told Moses, “You cannot see My face, for no one may see Me and live” (Exodus 33:20). Who can look upon the One who fashioned the sun and moon in their dazzling brilliance—who made the stars, (Genesis 1:16), who stretched out the heavens like a tent, who marshaled their starry hosts (Isaiah 45:12), who fills everything in every way (Ephesians 1:23)? Who can grasp the infinite, unfathomable, unsearchable God (Job 36:26, Psalm 145:3)?
Yet, You chose to reveal Yourself, in Your Son, the exact representation of Your being (Hebrews 1:3): No one has ever seen God, but the One and Only Son, who is Himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made Him known (John 1:18). He provided the only way to know You, and to dwell with You forever, "Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent" (John 17:3).
And so the apostle Paul dared pray with constancy and fervor, that the church would know You better. And we dare pray for Your wisdom and revelation that we may grasp the length, and breath, and depth of the hope, and glory, and power we have in You.
Help us to see You in focus. As we gaze upon Your Son, open the eyes of our heart. Enlighten us that we may know You.
