Day 3: The peace of God
And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see” (2 Kings 6:17).
Great and Mighty Father, You are high and exalted—seated on Your throne. Heavenly beings worship You in the splendor of Your holiness, saying, Holy, Holy, Holy Lord Almighty, the whole earth is full of Your glory (Psalm 96:9, Isaiah 6:3).
And yet it is so easy for veiled eyes and earthbound heats to miss Your wonder and Your majesty, Your power and Your presence! Teach us to pray like Moses, Show me Your glory (Exodus 33:18).
Touch our vison, Lord, open the eyes of our hearts (Ephesians 1:18). You have given us the assurance that we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Help us to live, like Elisha, in the constant reality of Your presence, looking beyond the seen and the temporal to the unseen and the eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18). Keep our hearts steadfast and steady even in the turmoil and chaos around us—confident in the all-surpassing power of heaven that surrounds us.
Help us, as holy brothers and sisters who share in the heavenly calling, to fix our thoughts on Jesus (Hebrews 3:1)—Our Redeemer—the Lord of hosts is His name…the Holy One of Israel. (Isaiah 47:4 - ESV).
Make us channels of blessing for those who, like Elisha's servant, are overwhelmed by the immediate and the insistent, the troubles and the threats. So many are fearful and worried, distracted and disturbed. Let them see in us the peace of God.
God of all hope and peace, in these turbulent days, open blind eyes, that they may see. Unveil blind hearts to embrace the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God (2 Corinthians 4:4).
