Day 2: In the shadow of Your wings
Though hail flattens the forest and the city is leveled completely, how blessed you will be…(Isaiah 32:19-20).
Our Father, only You, Eternal God, Sovereign Ruler, can at once show us the world through the lens of the present and the contemporary, the past, and the future. Only You can at once provide details about a kingdom to be established under an earthly ruler (Hezekiah), and the Kingdom of Righteousness to be established under Your Messiah:
See, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule with justice. Each one will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land (Isaiah 32:1-2).
Lord, in all of the relentless winds and the bruising, buffeting, storms of life, You lift the veil for a moment, and give us hope and encouragement to endure to the end (Matthew 24:13). You refresh our souls with the promise of a place of peace even while the storm rages on:
The Lord’s justice will dwell in the desert, His righteousness live in the fertile field. The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest. (Isaiah 32:18-19).
And by Your grace and Your promise, we find the boldness and the confidence to pray to You, Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in You I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of Your wings until the disaster has passed (Psalm 57:1).
