Day 2: Stand at the crossroads

And now, O Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in You (Psalm 39:7 - ESV).

Father in heaven, we have no life, no purpose without You. For everything in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – comes not from the Father but from the world. (1 John 2:16).

It is easy to be caught up in the trappings, the concerns, the distractions of the world. Its sights are blinding, its sounds are deafening, its confusion is overwhelming. Without Your help, we have no orientation, no direction, no focus. No one knows the way— we are all like sheep, gone astray (Isaiah 53:6).

Lord, I do not want to be swept up in the din and the clamor, the fruitless hurrying and the scurrying. Nor do I want to retreat in weariness and resignation. So I stand at the crossroads and ask of You, "Show me the way— the good way" (Jeremiah 6:16).

Help me not to misspend the years of my sojourn here. This short life will soon pass, for The world and its desires pass away but whoever does the will of God lives for ever (1 John 2:17).

I pray for Your help in the words of the psalmist:

“O Lord, make me know my end

and what is the measure of my days;

let me know how fleeting I am!

Behold, You have made my days a few handbreadths,

and my lifetime is as nothing before You.

Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah

Surely a man goes about as a shadow!

Surely for nothing they are in turmoil;

man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather!

“And now, O Lord, for what do I wait?

My hope is in You.

— Psalm 39: 4-7 - ESV
