This week's Theme: The power in prayer

Day 1: Lord, teach us to pray

children praying

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When He finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples” (Luke 11:1).

In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come.

Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,

As we forgive our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation,

But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

Amen.

Matthew 6:9-13 - NKJV

“Lord, teach us to pray,” as in Thy presence kneeling,

We, children of Thine, are waiting to be blest;

Bend Thou from above, Thyself in love revealing,

And help us aright to make our souls’ request.

“Lord, teach us to pray,” so much from Thee we’re needing;

So little we know, to ask Thee as we ought;

Oh, grant us Thy Spirit to inspire our pleading,

Bring into obedience each desire and thought.

“Lord, teach us to pray,” in deep and holy union

May every will be blended with Thine own;

Heart beating with heart in warm and blest communion,

Together may our petition reach Thy throne.

“Lord, teach us to pray,” for Thee we thirst and hunger,

As panteth the hart for cool refreshing streams:

The pleasures of earth can satisfy no longer;

The hopes of this world are but dissolving dreams.

“Lord, teach us to pray,” until the doors of heaven

Shall open through faith to our enraptured gaze;

Rich blessings descend, all needed grace be given;

This place, where we pray, becomes a house of praise.
