Day 5: The Right Paths

When my spirit grows faint within me, it is You, God, who watch over my way

So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left (Deuteronomy 5:32).

O Living Word of God, You are a lamp for [our] feet, a light on [our path] (Psalm 119:105). You alone know every good path, every hidden path, every dark and slippery path. You alone know all the snares, the pits, the bogs, the tunnels, the precipices— around, besides, ahead.

We thank You for the precious promises You have given us to light our way— too numerous to mention— so many of them in the Psalms alone:

You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand (Psalm 16:11— also quoted in Acts 2:28).

My steps have held to Your paths; my feet have not stumbled (Psalm 17:5).

You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way (Psalm 18:36)

[The Lord] guides me along the right paths for His name's sake (Psalm 23:3).

O Lord, be our vision, our guardian, our guide in this increasingly overwhelming and treacherous world. Help us not to become distracted, transfixed, dismayed, or paralyzed by the darkness and the turmoil.

Help us to look to You. You alone know the way to the abode of light (Job 38:19). Show us Your ways, teach us Your paths (Psalm 25:4). Help us fix our eyes on You— on Your unfailing and enduring word, turning not aside to the right or to the left.
